Class Descriptions

All Ages, All Stages

Music Together® classes are all about relaxed, informal music-making for the whole family, regardless of age, stage, or learning style. Because the things we do in class are developmentally appropriate for all participants, you and your child with special needs are always welcome to join our warm and inviting communities of singing, dancing, and instrument-playing families.

Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers (0-5yrs): Each week, a trained Music Together teacher leads the class in singing, dancing, and playing songs that range from tender lullabies to boisterous jams using child-friendly percussion instruments. Our award-winning music, illustrated songbook, and other print and online resources will help you continue the music-making fun at home and nurture your child's musical growth—even if you don't think of yourself as a great singer or dancer. Like parenting, making music requires no previous experience or expertise, just a willingness to get down on the floor and get silly with your child!

Classes

Newborn - 12 months: In the Music Together Babies class, for infants from birth through 12 months, you'll learn a lot of fun musical activities for babies. You'll also learn to recognize which of your baby's behaviors are musical so that you can support their development at the time when your baby's brain is at its most receptive. The Babies class has other benefits, too! Singing and dancing with your baby is a beautiful way for the two of you to bond.

Babies Classes

Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers (0-5yrs): Each week, a community of families comes together to sing, dance, and play in a class led by a trained Music Together teacher with a Jewish background. All Sing Shalom classes combine the Music Together song collections that families know and love with a carefully curated and recorded supplemental playlist of Jewish music.

Sing Shalom Classes

4 - 6yrs: Designed specifically for pre-K and early elementary students, our active Rhythm Kids® classes for big kids tap into how children this age are wired to learn with music games, animal rhythm stories, and lots of stomping-flying-climbing fun. In each weekly music class, we drum, sing, move, and play to rhythms inspired by musical traditions around the world, from West African Gahu, to Japanese Taiko, to Brazilian Samba, just to name a few.

Early Childhood Music Curriculum: Our comprehensive music curriculum for children from birth through, and including, kindergarten offers a consistently high level of music education that's geared to the way children naturally learn. By giving children what they need to grow musically in a playful, developmentally appropriate, and musically rich way, our research-based curriculum and proven program model support children’s development of basic music competence as well as development in domains important to success in school and life.
And, because we bring our research-based model to the entire school community—children, teachers, and families alike—we also support family engagement, parent-child relationships, and classroom teacher professional development.

Lullabies Interim Class: There’s nothing quite like singing softly to an infant in your arms. It seems to be a universal impulse for adults—every culture around the world has its own lullaby tradition. But lullabies are not just for babies, and they are far more than just a useful way to settle a child to sleep. A lullaby provides a time to be close to your child physically, emotionally, and musically. It bonds parent and child, lulling both singer and listener, synchronizing breaths and reducing stress. A lullaby can soothe an overstimulated child, comfort a child who’s upset, or offer a quiet respite at any time of the day. The lullaby can also transform the bedtime hour into an oasis of loving calm. For babies and toddlers, it provides a comforting bedtime ritual. For older children, who are increasingly verbal, it is often the time they spontaneously confide their hopes and fears. For parents and caregivers, it is a time to pause in their busy day and enjoy a moment of quiet intimacy.
