Music Together® Guidelines

PARTICIPATION: In this class, it is essential for the adults to participate! The children learn their attitudes and motivations from you, and you can help them become enthusiastic music-makers just by enjoying the class and participating fully. You will be an excellent model regardless of your musical ability —a sense of fun is all required. For the children's benefit, our goal is to make class time a music-immersion experience.

FOOD: No food is allowed in class due to serious and sometimes life-threatening food allergies. Food must be consumed in a different space before or after music class.

ILLNESS: Please don't come to class if you or your child are sick. Instead, please use our unlimited makeup policy and schedule a makeup class for another week. Please note that makeups can not be carried over to another semester, so please plan your makeup as soon as possible after your missed class and by the last class date. Spots are offered on a first come first serve basis.

CELL PHONES: Please set your cell phone to vibrate or turn it off during class, and please put it away in a pocket or bag. Please do not talk or text on your phone during class, as it distracts others. If something urgent arises, please step away to make your call, taking your child with you, unless there is another adult there to supervise your child. If you have another adult bringing your child to class (i.e. Nanny, Grandparent), please go over this guideline with that person.

PHOTOS/VIDEOS: Some families may feel uncomfortable with photos and videotaping in class, so please limit this to a few quick ones when you first arrive or during the free dance and/or instrument play (of YOUR child only). Then please put your phone away, in your pocket or bag, and prepare for making music with your child, modeling that, and creating a fun, comfortable, community environment. We are happy to let you use our props to take a photo/video before or after class. Please ask your teacher.

RUNNING IN CLASS: Children are learning about their bodies and exploring how music makes them feel, and running might be a part of that. However, if you notice your child starting to move off your blanket, please redirect them back to your blanket. If your child still really wants to run, wander or visit others, try placing your blanket in the back. Try dancing back. Then continue participating and have safe fun with us.

DO NOT LEAVE CHILD UNATTENDED: Children must be under the care and control of their caregiver at all times during class, ensuring the safety and well-being of their children and others in the class. Under no circumstances may they be left during class without their specific caregiver. Note: they may not be left with some other adult in class.

ADDITIONAL ADULTS: Other adults are allowed, but since our classes are based on the musical model, they must participate.

REFUNDS:  Refunds requested 48 hrs prior to when class begins will be subject to a $40.00 processing fee. No refunds or credits will be issued once the first class has taken place. Physical materials (songbook & CD) are included in tuition and are not returnable or refundable; they are not available to unregistered families.

SIBLINGS:

• Our program goes through age 5. Any sibling, aged 8mo-6years, of a child registered in a mixed age class must also be registered, but will receive the sibling discount.

• In mixed age classes (0-5yrs), if the older sibling is age 6 or over, they may come in as a musical model, the same as "additional adults" (see above) without scheduling. They are expected to participate with adults.

• In mixed age classes (0-5yrs), older unregistered siblings under the age of 6 must be registered as a Drop-in or Make-up in order to come to class. We allow siblings to use an already existing make-up; however they must be scheduled as a "make up". Please show in notes: older sibling (name). Please do not bring the older sibling without scheduling.

• In our babies classes (12mo and under), siblings older than 12 months are not allowed in class. Babies classes are run at a slower and lower pace, and the presence of older children will disrupt the developmental purpose of the class. Please schedule a make-up in a mixed-age class if you find you need to bring both children due to childcare need.

SIBLINGS 8 MONTHS AND UNDER ARE COMPLIMENTARY: Siblings of a paid registrant, 8 months and under, as of first day of class, are free of charge. Proof of date of birth must be provided to instructor on first day of class.

TEACHERS: For reasons beyond our control it may be necessary to change the teacher for a given class. Though it's extremely rare, Peninsula Music Together reserves the right to make teacher changes without prior notice in order to keep a class going. All PMT teachers are trained by Music Together LLC.

MAKE-UPS: As a courtesy, Peninsula Music Together allows unlimited makeups which can not be rolled over to another semester and MUST BE SCHEDULED by the last class date in the semester. The make up class can be done in any of our classes that show available spots on the make-up scheduler. We have almost 60 classes per week, even on Saturday and Sunday! You will not be permitted to enter class without a scheduled make-up. Please be prepared to show the teacher your confirmation upon arrival.

DROP-INS: Drop-in classes are available to families looking to test out our classes before registering for a full semester. Families are permitted three drop-in classes per child within a semester before they will be asked to register (pro-rated) for the rest of the semester. Drop-ins are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and can be found through our drop-in scheduler. Drop-ins are non-refundable and CANNOT be rescheduled.

PRO-RATED TUITION: Pro-rated tuition is available after the first class has already passed. Proration is not available prior to the start of the semester, or for classes that will be missed toward the end of the semester.

SONG COLLECTION MATERIALS: 9 different Song Collections are rotated over 3 years. They are part of the class and included in the tuition. (one set per family) They are not optional and in fact enhance the experience more than we can say!
